Arapahoe County, Colorado is a great place to live, offering its residents a wide variety of cultural, entertainment, and outdoor activities. The county is home to several parks and recreational areas, managed by the Department of Open Spaces and the Arapahoe County Park and Recreation District. The county-owned parks include 17 Mile House and Farm Park, Cherry Creek Valley Ecological Park, Cheyenne-Arapaho Park, and Dove Valley Regional Park. The Department of Open Spaces works to preserve natural and heritage areas, improve regional and neighborhood parks, and build and maintain trails.
Since its inception, the program has constructed or improved more than 76 miles of new trails, supported over 180 park projects and trail starts, and safeguarded more than 31,000 acres of open space. The Arapahoe County Park and Recreation District encompasses 14 parks with approximately 14 miles of trails and more than 300 acres of natural areas. In addition to that, it also consists of a recreational center and a skate park. The county is also actively developing new park locations, trails, and renovating other parks.
The 26% Southern Suburban Park Recreation District and the 26% Arapahoe Recreational Park District are also part of the county's recreational offerings. These districts provide additional recreational opportunities for residents. Arapahoe County also owns and manages 5,300 acres, eight parks, four trails, five open spaces, 22 miles of trails, the historic 17 Mile House Agricultural Park, and the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds and Events Center. As a member of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, Arapahoe County helps fund a variety of cultural organizations each year.
